Home Cheese Making Recipes

Whether you are considering home cheese making for personal enjoyment, school projects, or historical significance, cheese making recipes are available for every type of cheese for the home project. Understanding the basics about how to make cheese will help you find the right basic recipe so that you can begin your new and exciting project.

Home cheese making is simply re-creating the process at home that usually happens in a factory. Cheese comes in different form, from soft to hard, and the process is a little different for each type. How do you do this at home?

All cheese comes from the solid curds from soured milk, which are either produced by cows, goats, or even sheep. Once the curds have been separated from the liquid part (known as whey). Once the curds are formed, they are salted to prevent spoiling, and molded into blocks or wheels. The cheese actually uses bacteria to ripen, and it must mature before eating.

By using cheese making recipes and doing your own home cheese making, you can control the ingredients that go in your finished product. You can choose organic products, and avoid the hormones that are frequently found it store products. The quality control issue can't be overlooked either - you will know every step it took to make your cheese, and you can proudly serve it to your friends and family.

Find the right cheese making recipes for your first attempt can seem overwhelming, but find a simple recipe to work with at first. A soft, mild cheese will yield the most immediate results, with a soft cheese that can be eaten as is, or one that can be put through a press to create a crumbly cheese.

The first step in home cheese making is to have the proper equipment. Much like construction, you don't want to get halfway in and realize you are missing a key piece. Read through your recipe carefully and have all the appropriate ingredients and tools. Depending on what type of cheese you decide to make, you will probably need cheesecloth or muslin clothes, a mixing bowl, a palette or curd knife, large stock pan and a colander. All items will need to be properly sterilized before beginning.

Quick Pizza Dough Recipe

Pizza is one of those foods that when you get a craving for it nothing else will do. You can always get one delivered, but there is so much more satisfaction in making your own dough and stretching it, topping it, and baking it. This recipe makes two great tasting, thin crust bases.

Ingredients (makes 2 pizzas)

• 300g White Flour - 1.5 cups
• 200ml Water - 4/5 of a cup
• 8g Instant Dried Yeast - 2 heaped tsp
• 8g Sugar - 2 tsp
• 6g Sea Salt - 1 heaped tsp
• 15ml Olive oil - 1 tbsp

Technique

1. Mix all of the dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl.
2. Pour in the water and stir just until mixed in.
3. Add the oil and keep stirring until you have a nice smooth mixture.
4. Cover the bowl and allow the dough to rest for ten minutes
5. Turn out the dough onto a floured board or benchtop. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes by squishing flat, folding in half, squishing flat again and repeating. As you knead, you should find that the dough loses its stickiness and becomes more smooth and supple.
6. Split the dough into two equal lumps and shape each lump into a ball. Sprinkle the dough balls with flour and cover with plastic wrap. Leave in a warm place to rise for one hour.
7. The dough is now ready to use. Shape each dough ball into a pizza base by pressing it into shape with your fingertips or rolling out. Place each base on a floured peel or a pizza tray if preferred, add your favorite toppings and cook your on a preheated pizza stone!

How to Make Crab Egg Cakes

I don't really know what to call this one so I'm simply going to call it crab egg cakes because those are the two most important ingredients. Korean people seem to love this kind of side dish, and I thoroughly enjoy it as well. It's relatively simple to make and delicious to eat, unless you have a thing against eggs and crabs. Learn how to make this simple dish today.

The ingredients that you will need are: eggs, imitation crab meat, onions, green onions, and salt.

This dish is really a very simple one to make. For starters, crack some eggs into a large bowl and whisk it with some salt added in. Leave these on the side and go to start chopping up your vegetables and imitation crab meat.

Take your crab meat and chop it into very small pieces and mix them into the egg mixture. Then, take your vegetables and chop them up very finely too. Throw these into the egg mixture as well. Mix your ingredients well so that there are no lumps and that everything is evenly spread out throughout the mixture.

Old Fashion Navajo Fried Bread

It has been said that bread is the staff of life and I for one will not disagree with them. In the event of major disasters or emergency condition it would be highly unlikely that one could obtain loaves of bread at the local grocery store. It is also possible that you may not have electricity in order to bake your own bread. What would you do in this case? Would you go without?

It really is not necessary to deprive your family of bread when you are living under emergency conditions. I have made a number of different breads ranging from the more colorful ones containing cinnamon and various sweet spices to those that are simple and easily made. One of my all time favorites however, remains the Navajo fried bread.

Indian fried bread is a traditional food to the Navajo tribe and frequently is associated with a story which relates to the tribes past suffering. The Navajo tribe revered the earth just as their ancestors did before the time of the white man. They raised crops and tended livestock on their land which was bordered by several sacred mountains. One mountain came from the northeastern Arizona, one from the western New Mexico area and one towards the north into Utah and the state of Colorado. Their crops were grown in the fertile valley lands between these sacred mountains.
